Elle’s Story
Elle arrived with us earlier this year, she is a 29-year-old Arabian horse. When she arrived with us we started to notice that she was dropping her food and was starting to lose a bit of condition. As soon as we picked this up we called out the equine dentist to come have a check on her teeth.
She discovered that Elle had quite a lot of loose teeth and some sharp teeth that were causing her grief. The equine dentist was able file down the teeth that were sharp and then advised that she would need around 4-6 teeth removing. As she is quite old it can be a bit of a risk to put her under sedation so we tried everything that we could before we had to come to the decision to send her in to Rufford vets. When she went in to Rufford she had a full check-up including all of her bloods checked and the teeth were removed that were causing issues.
She was also tested for Cushing’s and unfortunately this came back quite high. This means that she will now be on medication for the foreseeable future.
All of the vet visits came to £600, this includes the consultations, sedation, teeth removal, after care, medication, blood tests and Cushing’s tests.
Elle is now much happier in herself, she is back to eating well and being sassy as usual. Depending on the nice weather, she often goes onto the hill for fresh grass!
Any help towards this bill will make a huge difference to us
